Suffolk District Attorney Tim Sini announced Thursday the indictment of 18 people in a heroin and cocaine trafficking ring.
Sini says four of those indicted are major drug traffickers. Sini says one of the four is Daniel Ayala, who used addicts as quality control testers to test the products before he sold them.
"He was very consistent about it, and that shows that he was a professional drug dealer, a major trafficker," says Sini.
Authorities seized heroin, cocaine, cash and guns as part of the ongoing investigation. Prosecutors say the group sold $900,000 worth of drugs in just two months.
"This is a unique case in that the entire network you have four major traffickers all located within Suffolk County," says Sini. "This is an important case because we took dangerous drug dealers off the street. They were selling dangerous drugs and possessing dangerous weapons."
Ayala's attorney says the DA's office always makes things sound bigger than they really are. The attorney says until all the evidence is reviewed you can't really tell what is true.
Prosecutors say Ayala was running a drug mill out of an apartment in the back of his home on Plume Court in Bay Shore.
