The community celebrated the opening of World Pride 2019 at the Barclays Center Wednesday.

The evening started with a rainbow carpet, where celebrities and performers made their grand entrances.

Some celebrities at the event included Whoopi Goldberg, Cyndi Lauper, former contestants from "RuPaul's Drag Race" and Ciara.

World Pride NYC is a benefit concert hosted by Whoopi Goldberg and it is the kickoff of World Pride running from June 26 to June 30. It's meant to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots.

World Pride events have been held in many large cities around the world including Rome, London, Jerusalem, Toronto and Madrid. The next one will be in Copenhagen in 2021.
