Police: Ridge man fatally struck ex in Miller Place, drove off

A man has been arrested in connection with a deadly hit-and-run in Miller Place.
Police say 30-year-old John Lang, of Ridge, struck 31-year-old Mary Ginty, of Sound Beach. It happened around 10 p.m. Monday on Miller Place Road.
The two had been a couple at one point.
Police say Lang fled the scene and was arrested hours later at his parents' house.
The victim was pronounced dead at a Port Jefferson hospital.
Lang is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. He was held on $75,000 bail.
It's unclear at this point whether Lang intentionally ran over Ginty, or why they were on that road. Ginty worked at a restaurant less than a half-mile from the crash scene.
In court, the prosecutor said Lang admitted to police when arrested: "I didn't see exactly where she went. I drove down the road and accidentally clipped her. I didn't see her. I drove off because I have a warrant."
Lang's attorney said the man "denied making any oral confessions."
Court documents show that Lang has been arrested seven times since January, and Ginty arrested six times since September -- some of which were for drug possession. Friends say both struggled with drug issues.
