The discovery of E. coli in Long Beach's water supply and the following boil water alert caused people to scramble to get their hands on bottled water Friday.

Nassau County provided the city with 15 pallets of bottled water, or about 20,000 cases. But it had run out by Friday evening.

The water provided by the county was given out at City Hall, East School and Long Beach Catholic Regional School. After those locations ran dry, people started heading to local stores. Some were able to find water at Stop & Shop, but that was quickly depleted too.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo sent another 30,000 cases of water to the city.

Long Beach officials say it could take up to three days for the E. coli to clear out of the city's water system.
