There's a last-minute push in Albany to triple the number of slot machines at Jake's 58 Hotel & Casino in Islandia.
The bill would increase the number of video slot machines from 1,000 to 3,000. It was proposed over the weekend by state Sen. Jim Gaughran and Assemblyman Steve Stern.
Gaughran says the additional nontax revenue will benefit Suffolk County, which is struggling with a deficit. He says the money can help fund important water-quality improvement projects or be used for law enforcement.
Some residents say the increase isn't worth it and that the odds are not in their favor. Others say they're unsure if they would actually seen an impact from boosting the slot terminals.
The current legislative session ends Wednesday.
