NORTH BABYLON -

A West Islip man was hospitalized in a wrong-way crash on Sunrise Highway in North Babylon on Sunday.

Police say a Chevy Malibu was heading west in the eastbound lanes near Route 231 just after noon when the vehicle collided with a pickup truck. A wheel fell off the pickup truck and hit another car.

A motorcyclist also hit the median after swerving to avoid the wreck.

News 12 is told that the driver of the Malibu may have suffered a medical emergency before the crash and was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

No one else was hurt.
