Some of the Miracle Mets were on hand Sunday to help celebrate Father's Day at Momentum at South Bay Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility in East Islip.
Ed Kranepool and Art Shamsky, from the '69 World Series champion team, were signing autographs and talking to dads at the facility. A special barbecue was held with lobster tails and steak, plus music and more.
The event was for the fathers at the facility who couldn't spend the day with their families at home.
Although Shamsky and Kranepool are gearing up to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Miracle Mets Winning the World Series, both baseball stars felt it was important to take time out and thank their loyal fans.
"There's a lot of Mets fans and they appreciate us coming over here and sharing their day with them," says Kranepool. "It's Father's Day here for a lot of the guys and it's nice to see them."
Ed Kranepool, who received a new kidney just a few weeks ago, says he was happy he recovered in time to make it to the special event.
"It's the second miracle for me. I have had two -- I had '69 and I had this one," he says.
Art Shamsky has a new book out called "After the Miracle," which celebrates the lasting friendship of the '69 Mets team.
