Basketball tournament held in honor of slain 6-year-old

A birthday celebration was held Saturday in memory of a 6-year-old boy who died in 2014, two weeks before his birthday.

A birthday celebration was held Saturday in memory of a 6-year-old boy who died in 2014, two weeks before his birthday.
Every year, friends and family come together to celebrate Joshua Avitto's birthday.
This year, they gathered at the new Prince Joshua Avitto Comunity Center, named in his honor, to play a basketball tournament. Avitto loved the sport and his mom was planning on signing him up for a team before he died.
Avitto was murdered in the elevator on June 1, 2014. He was on his way to get icies with his friend.
The office of state Sen. Roxanne Persaud awarded a citation to the people who made the event happen, as a way to express appreciation for bringing the community together.
