With summer right around the corner, the biggest job in amusement parks shines through – the ride inspector.
For the last 22 years, it's been James Bedics' job to make sure theme park and carnival rides run smoothly for any thrill seekers around the city.
Bedics, as part of the New York City Department of Buildings, looks over every attraction in the area, including the upcoming 'Feast of Saint Anthony Festival' in the Bronx.
He makes sure everything is properly assembled and working as it should so it is safe for riders.
Last year, the DOB performed about 600 inspections for rides that are on the road, as well as more than 9,000 spot checks at events around the city.
The agency, although making sure carnival rides run well, is also responsible for permanent fixture rides as well.
Bedics favorite ride that never gets old to check is Brooklyn's iconic Cyclone coaster, located right in Coney Island.
"I usually ride it about nine or 10 times, just to make sure it's safe," Bedics said. "I do it for the inspections, because I've been doing it for so long…and I just love riding that ride.
