A school and parents in Greenwich are petitioning against the town to reinstate suspended bus service.
The Eagle Hill School says it received a letter from the Greenwich school district two weeks ago saying bus service was suspended for the 2019-2020 school year.
The school helps students with language-based learning disabilities like attention deficit disorder or dyslexia.
It serves students throughout the tristate area and around 50 students from Greenwich.
Head of the school, Dr. Marjorie Castro, says there's a statute in the law that states if 50 percent of students aren't from Connecticut then the town doesn't have to provide transportation.
"With all schools both public and private they said it was financial. That's something hard for us to believe as our children ride the buses with other children who go to other independent schools in Greenwich," Castro says.
Dr. Castro attended a Board of Education meeting Thursday where he handed over a petition with over 500 signatures to bring the buses back.
In a statement, the superintendent of Greenwich schools writes: "Private school enrollment data is reviewed annually to ensure compliance with state statutes. Eagle Hill does not meet the requirement for providing transportation and we must be consistent among the organizations eligible and not eligible for provision of service and use of town allocations."
