Police say a man from Clifton was killed following a car crash on Route 22 East in North Plainfield.

The accident happened Monday around 1:07 p.m. near West End Avenue.

According to police, John Melo, 31, lost control of his vehicle, struck a stopped vehicle in the center lane, and then struck vehicles in the left lane.

Police say Melo was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Somerset, where he died from his injuries.

A total of five vehicles were involved.

Gercino R. Soares, 73, of Dunellen, Jennifer Connelly, 45, of Hasbrouck Heights, and Sean P. Manns, 54, of Murray Hill, were the other drivers involved in the crash.

There are no word on any other injuries.

A commercial vehicle involved in the crash left the scene.
