Suffolk County police say an unconscious man was found Thursday morning in Kirk Park in Montauk and was later pronounced dead.
Police say the man is a Montauk resident, and they believe he came into the park just before 7 a.m. He was found by two people walking along a trail around 7:30 a.m. East Hampton town police then responded to the scene.
Police say the man, who hasn't been identified, had head injuries and was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police are not saying exactly what kind of injuries the man had to his head, only that they were severe.
The Suffolk medical examiner will determine a cause of death.
Police say they do not have anyone in custody but there is no indication of any gang connection.
