Finances are being mismanaged at the Hempstead Town Animal Shelter, according to an audit by Nassau County Comptroller Jack Schnirman.
Schnirman says, "Spending could be monitored better, cash can be controlled better over time, attendance can be better over time and procurement could be done better, so there were some significant concerns."
Schnirman says his office's year-long review of the shelter's finances was frustrating, because his auditors were blocked from getting some information.
He's recommending a variety of financial changes, in addition to another audit of staff and animal care.
