A 20-year-old Brick Township man is facing charges after authorities say he deliberately ran over a family of geese.
Toms River police say that Quintan Alec-Manning drove over five geese in the parking lot of the Indian Head Plaza shopping center.
Ollie’s Bargain Outlet employees Nikki Doyle and Vivian Arteaga say that they were in the parking lot taking a break when a shopper came to them to tell them about the incident.
"I’m a very curious person so I walked over there - I didn't get too close, but I got within maybe 10 feet and it was literally a mom and three or four little babies,” says Doyle.
"There were feathers everywhere…The animals were scattered everywhere. It was just sad to see,” Arteaga says.
The act left many Toms River residents questioning why anyone would commit such an act.
“It’s unfortunate. Geese are a problem and they're even a health problem in town, but you just don't go deliberately running them over. There's other ways to handle it,” says Toms River Mayor Tom Kelaher.
Alec-Manning was charged with five counts of third-degree animal cruelty. Police say that there is the potential for the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife to issue more summonses against him.
