The annual Long Island Scottish Festival & Highland Games is back on at Old Westbury Gardens.
News 12 reported earlier this month that the festival was canceled because of a new tent fee imposed by the village that would have left organizers $15,000 in debt.
According to an update posted on LIScots.org
In order not to disappoint our loyal supporters, Old Westbury Gardens and the Festival Committee reached out to the Village of Old Westbury and were able to make a compromise on the tent/canopy fees. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope that we have a large attendance to help us defray the new costs imposed by the village. These costs will not be passed along to the public or the vendors. Any profit made by Old Westbury Gardens and the Festival goes to annual expenses of the gardens and local charities as we are both 501 (c) 3 not for profit organizations.
The festival will go on as usual on August 24, proving the old Scottish saying is true: "It's a lang road that's no goat a turnin'.”
