Fire breaks out at 2-family house in Stamford; man hospitalized
A two-family home in Stamford caught fire Thursday, sending people running for safety.
The Stamford Fire Department says they got the call on Fairfield Avenue around 6 p.m. and that they saw an upstairs bedroom fully engulfed in flames.
Fire crews shut the bedroom door and were able to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the house.
A young man had to be taken to the hospital. Neighbors say he fell down the stairs trying to get everyone out of the home.
Those who live in the house called 911 and quickly sprang into action, getting everyone to safety, including two dogs. Fire crews commended their efforts, saying they did "the exact thing they were supposed to do."
Neighbors believe an electrical cord may have sparked the fire, but the fire marshal is investigating a cause.
