Police have made an arrest in connection with a 2018 ambush-style slaying in East Patchogue.
Emilio Sanchez Maldonado was a fun-loving, energetic 17-year-old who loved to play soccer. He was fatally shot right outside his East Patchogue home. His lifeless body was found on his bicycle.
Police say the killer waited for him on the morning of July 3, 2018 and shot him in an ambush-style attack.
After a 10-month investigation, police say they arrested 17-year-old Melquisedec Antonio Sanchez-Hernandez early Monday morning in North Bellport and charged him with second-degree murder.
Geovanni Martinez says he was close with his cousin, the victim. He says he wants to see justice for his cousin.
Nahun Cruz, the victim's uncle, says he was "a wonderful boy."
The victim's father wasn't available for an interview Monday night because of his work schedule.
Family members say they will all be present in court Tuesday morning for the suspect's arraignment.
