Parents attended a Board of Education meeting Tuesday night to demand a plan to rectify what they call deplorable conditions inside Valley Stream North High School.

Parents say their children are learning in filth and that they have hundreds of pictures to prove it.

As News 12 has reported, parents and students have been complaining to district officials about unsanitary conditions at the high school since March. Parents provided photos to News 12 showing various rooms in the high school with deteriorating bathrooms and science lab sinks.

Students say the dirty classrooms create an unhealthy environment that's impacting their ability to learn.

In response, school Superintendent Dr. William Heidenreich read from a prepared statement: "I'm confident that the district is doing it's best to provide a safe, secure environment for all students and staff in the district."

Many parents at the meeting disagree and called for a permanent solution. They the school board to form an ad hoc committee to deal with the maintenance problems. But parents say the board ended the meeting without answering their calls for action.
