The state has approved a new tool to catch drivers who illegally pass stopped school buses.
Legislators reached a deal on Tuesday that would allow districts to equip buses with cameras.
The cameras could be placed on the stop sign arm or another spot on the bus. Videos of offending drivers will then be sent to police.
The fine for the first offense would be $250.
Lawmakers are expected to vote on the bill next week.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said he will sign it into law.
