Police say they arrested the driver behind a deadly hit-and-run in Lynbrook.
The incident happened just before 8 p.m. Thursday at Blossom Health Avenue and Merrick Road. Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says a 70-year-old man was crossing Merrick Road when he was hit.
Police later found the vehicle, a 2012 gray Nissan Sentra, in Hewlett and arrested 48-year-old Harley Dix, of Lynbrook. Police charged him with leaving the scene of an accident with death.
When News 12 asked Dix whether he drove the vehicle in the deadly hit-and-run, he said, "Apparently."
In Nassau court Friday afternoon, Dix's attorney told the judge his client has a low IQ and didn't know he hit a person with his car.
The judge set Dix's bail at $40,000 and ordered him to return to court on April 30.
Police have not identified the victim.
