Commuters at the Westbury Long Island Railroad station may be scrambling for a parking spot Monday as the north side parking lot closes for construction.
The construction is part of the LIRR expansion project and a four-level parking garage will be built in the lot's place.
A LIRR spokesperson says the new garage will increase the parking capacity on the north side of the station by 60%.
The south lot will only be available to resident permit holders. Construction will be ongoing from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
Alternate parking for commuters will be available at the former Source Mall. A free shuttle bus will run from there to the station at 20-minute intervals during peak times and 30-minute intervals in off-peak hours.
The parking changes are expected to continue into 2021. The expansion project is also expected to bring updates to the station, including another parking garage and improving drainage.
