A Suffolk County correction officer accused of sexually abusing a boy over several years is facing new charges after another alleged victim came forward.

News 12 reported in early April that 55-year old Robert Weis was charged with sexually abusing a friend's child starting in 1996, from when the boy was 7 to 16 years. Weis, who worked for more than 20 years as a Suffolk correction officer, was also charged Wednesday with sodomizing a second boy, starting when the child was 12. Suffolk District Attorney Tim Sini says that victim came forward after seeing News 12's earlier report.

Sini says it's believed that Weis had child pornography in his Hampton Bays home and sexually abused up to five other boys. However, those victims are not included in the indictment because of the statute of limitations.

The prosecutor in court Wednesday called Weis "a true deviant" who fostered children for years and "groomed" young boys to sexually abuse them.

Weis was put on modified duty at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Yaphank, working in a property room, after allegations surfaced that he had sexually abused a 13-year-old male relative in South Carolina. Those charges were filed in 2016, and that case is still pending.

Weis was also hit with weapons charges for not surrendering his guns once being placed on modified duty. He pleaded not guilty to all the Suffolk charges Wednesday, but his attorney wouldn't comment.

Weis became a certified foster parent in 2006. In a statement, Suffolk's Department of Social Services says its case workers "conducted regular monthly visits while foster children were placed in the home and closed the home in the beginning of 2013." A spokesman did not say why the home was closed.

If convicted, Weis faces 40 years behind bars. He's currently being held on $5 million cash bail.
