Eastport-South Manor Central School District Superintendent Patrick Brimstein was put on paid administrative leave Monday.
At a school board meeting Wednesday night, board President Nicholas Vero declined to talk about the reasons for Brimstein's indefinite suspension from his nearly $225,000-a-year post, citing personnel confidentiality rules.
District high school senior Christian Santos thinks taxpayers have a right to know, saying he shouldn't be paid without working.
Vero says two assistant superintendents will temporarily manage the district.
Brimstein's removal came two days before the school board voted in favor of submitting a $97 million budget to voters on May 21. The budget for the 2019-2020 school year will be accompanied by a $512,000 ballot proposition to hire armed guards, which would push the district over its state-assigned tax cap.
Brimstein did not respond to a request for comment.
