Affordable housing under construction focuses on homeless veterans

New and affordable housing is coming to Wakefield, primarily for homeless veterans in need of help.
The under-construction Muller Residence at 555 Nereid Ave. will have 90 total units – 54 of which are reserved for those veterans.
The building will feature a lecture hall to be used for educational programs and community board events. It will also include a laundry room, 24-hour security and a live-in superintendent.
Construction is expected to be completed within the next two years.
The building was once used as an Army Reserve center. The Doe Fund is behind the development, with funding coming from the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
