An NYU Langone Health neurologist from New Hyde Park was arraigned Monday on a slew of drug-related offenses.

Thomas Boes, 42, was arrested Sunday in a Westbury parking lot and has been charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police say they saw Boes in his car, holding a glass pipe to his mouth and quickly trying to hide it. They say a search of the car turned up hundreds of pills, many in bottles with the labels ripped off.

Police say Boes had more than 200 pills of methadone, a drug typically used to treat opioid addiction, two packages of fentanyl and crystallized rocks believes to be methamphetamine.

The judge set bail for Boes at $100,000. He's due back in court later this week.

Boes' lawyers calls him a good doctor who's certified in both neurology and psychology and should be in a treatment program instead of jail.

News 12 also spoke with Boes' father, who says his son has struggled with addiction for years and has been upset over the recent death of his mother.

An NYU Langone spokesperson sent News 12 a statement saying: "In view of the allegations made against Dr. Thomas Boes, he has been suspended without pay, and we will be following the legal proceedings."
