The contractor building part of the new LIRR third track aims to make millions of dollars in incentives based on its reviews from residents.
The project to add a third track along a 10-mile stretch between Floral Park and Hicksville could last up to four years.
During that time, Third Track Constructors (3TC) could be awarded up to $250,000 every three months just for being good neighbors in terms of traffic, noise and cleanliness.
So far, they have earned $220,000 in incentives. They stand to make about $4 million if the MTA's mailed surveys to residents remain positive.
Amol Christian, a Westbury resident, call the incentives "unconscionable," saying that the money should be "redirected back to the people that are affected by the project."
"That money could go a long way back in our local communities," he told News 12.
An MTA spokesperson says, "Strong project management and contractor incentives - as well as penalties - are the reasons the LIRR Expansion Project is progressing on schedule and within budget."
The MTA says more than 1,800 surveys went out to residents, but fewer than 300 responded. Another community scorecard will be sent out within the next two weeks.
