A Wyandanch man whose driver's license has been suspended 26 times is accused of twice fleeing from officers and causing a six-car crash.
Police say they tried pulling over 23-year-old Taieek Smith around 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Holbrook. Investigations say he initially complied, but then sped off.
About seven minutes later, officials say another officer tried pulling over Smith, this time on Sills Road in Patchogue. Again, Smith allegedly stopped his Mercedes-Benz but then hit the gas and drove away.
That second time, prosecutors say Smith caused a six-car collision, sending four people to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. Smith was then taken into custody.
Smith appeared in Central Islip court Friday to face charges of driving without a license, fleeing a police officer and drug possession. His bond was set at $14,000.
Authorities say Smith has a long rap sheet, including two open felony cases in Nassau County and New York City.
