Six suspected MS-13 gang members have been indicted in connection with the gruesome December slaying of a teenager in Lawrence.

The body of Harold Sermeno, 17, was found in a playground area behind Five Towns Community Center. He had been shot multiple times and hacked with a machete.

Court records state that Carlos Guerra, 18, and Yonathan Sanchez, 22, were arraigned in Mineola on Monday. Another 18-year-old and three juveniles are also charged in the partially sealed indictment.

According to the indictment, two days before Sermeno's body was found, the defendants arranged to meet Sermeno in a nearby park. They allegedly tried to follow him home to see where he lived. The alleged gang members then invited Sermeno to the community center the following night. The court records show one suspect hid behind a garbage can and another behind mesh to keep an eye out while Sermeno was killed.

Sanchez is charged with shooting Sermeno with a .22-caliber gun. Guerra allegedly slashed Sermeno in the neck with a machete.

Sanchez and Guerra are also among those charged in the same indictment with a slaying in Queens a few days before Sermeno was killed. In that case, Sanchez and Guerra allegedly sent pictures of Ian Cruz to other gang members, saying he had been "talking bad about MS-13" and got permission from the gang for the slaying.

Sanchez and Guerra were already in Rikers Island and were brought to Mineola Monday for arraignment. Both are being held without bail. News 12 is told that they will be tried for both killings in Nassau.
