Patrick Vecchio, the state’s longest-serving town supervisor, was laid to rest today at Calverton National Ceremony.
Friend, family and elected leaders arrived at Clayton Funeral Home in Kings Park Thursday for a final farewell.
The 88-year-old died on Saturday and spent his life serving the public. He was an Army veteran, an NYPD detective and then Smithtown supervisor for 40 years.
Vecchio took office in 1977, serving Smithtown until 2017 when he lost to the current supervisor, Edward R. Wehrheim.
Those who knew Vecchio say he leaves behind a legacy of being fiscally responsible and putting Smithtown taxpayers first.
