Wake services were held Wednesday at Clayton Funeral Home in Kings Park for former Smithtown Supervisor Pat Vecchio.
Vecchio was the longest serving town supervisor in New York state history. He was an NYPD detective and began his political career in 1977, serving Smithtown until 2017, when he lost the Republican primary to the current supervisor.
Vecchio died last weekend at age 88.
A prayer service will be held at Clayton Funeral Home Thursday morning before Vecchio is laid to rest at Calverton National Cemetery.
