Police say a Central Islip woman with 35 suspensions on her license drove drunk and crashed early Sunday morning.
They say 30-year-old Maritza Lavergne crashed her Ford Focus into a traffic sign and a tree around 4 a.m. in Lake Ronkonkoma.
When officers arrived, they say she showed signs of intoxication. They say Lavergne was supposed to have an alcohol interlock system that is given to prior DWI offenders, but her vehicle didn't have one.
Her license had also been revoked, according to police.
Lavergne was arrested for DWI and multiple other charges, and was held overnight at the Suffolk Police Department's 4th Precinct in Hauppauge.
News 12 spoke with Lavergne as she was being led to, and she admitted to being drunk behind the wheel. She said she had been drinking "liquor," and when asked why she drove drunk, she responded, "I don't know."
Lavergne was arraigned Sunday on a long list of charges, including felony DWI and driving without a license.
