Police say bullets started flying when two armed men broke into a Farmingville apartment early Friday morning.

It was just after 2 a.m. when residents of the Fairfield Hills gated community woke up to the sound of gunshots.

A photo obtained by News 12 shows that one of the shots fired passed right over a bed where a 10-year old girl was sleeping. The child's father told News 12 that the entire family was asleep when the bullet first shattered his bedroom window. He hit the floor and called 911.

Detective Lt. David Teufel says the .45-caliber bullet was a stray, fired by one of two suspects who broke into an apartment two doors away, demanding drugs. Police say the apartment resident took out a shotgun and fired at least once back at the suspects.

As the suspects fled, police say they fired the second shot that went through the window. It's right next to the window for which police believe the suspects were aiming.

Police say they recovered heroin, cocaine, marijuana and crack cocaine in the backyard of the targeted apartment. It appeared to have been thrown off the balcony.

Police say residents have previously complained about suspicious activity at the apartment from which the shots originated. Residents say the gate on their gated community is often broken.

By Friday evening, police said they had arrested two men who were inside the apartment. Sukham Janjua, 21, and Cole Kryshak, 19, are facing drug charges.

Fairfield Properties has not responded to a request for comment on the residents' complaints.
