Nassau's 6th, 8th police precincts reopening next week

Two Nassau County police precincts that were closed in 2012 as a cost-cutting measure are reopening next week.
"I'm not only glad that our communities will have their precincts back, I'm just as glad that the sworn members of the department will have their precincts back," Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said Thursday.
The 6th Precinct in Manhasset will reopen on Tuesday; the 8th Precinct in Levittown follows on Wednesday.
The reopening of the precincts, which were converted into community policing centers, means they'll have law enforcement staff. Newsday reports that won't include detective squads, at least not initially.
On Tuesday, the Manhasset precinct will be back up and running but will operate out of a mobile unit while its building undergoes renovations. Construction should wrap up in October.
