Suffolk health officials are investigating a case of tuberculosis discovered at Copiague Middle School.
The district made the announcement on its website on Monday.
The district says someone in the middle school community is being treated for TB, but that person is no longer at the school.
A letter from the school reads in part, "Copiague Middle School is partnering with the Suffolk County Department of Health to identify students and staff who may have been in close and prolonged contact with this individual. Those staff, students and their parents will be notified in a separate letter and further information about recommended testing will be provided."
News 12 spoke with a Nassau doctor who said the infection is highly contagious, but treatable.
The Suffolk Health Department is holding an informational meeting on the matter tonight at 6 p.m. at Copiague Middle School.
