Tar balls and an oil sheen were spotted along Long Island's southern shoreline.
The Coast Guard says the discovery was made Saturday from Coney Island to Atlantic Beach.
Crews say it may have stemmed from Thursday's oil leak in the Arthur Kill waterway.
They say beachgoers should avoid contact with the substances.
As News 12 has reported, tar balls washed up from Long Beach to Lido Beach earlier this month, as well as back in January.
