Family members paid a special tribute this weekend to a Long Island Boy Scout who was killed by an alleged drunk driver.

The family of Andrew McMorris celebrated what would have been his 13th birthday on Saturday with a special flight. The Wading River seventh-grader dreamed of becoming a pilot.

He had planned to spend his birthday flight at a Ronkonkoma flight school. His family took to the skies to honor him.

"We thought a lot about how we could embody his spirit and look forward to a more positive time," said Alisa McMorris.

"We definitely feel closer to him when we're in a place like this, or flying, an air place. Because that's where he always was, he was always up in the sky," says father John McMorris.

As News 12 has reported, McMorris was fatally struck by an alleged drunk driver as he hiked with his troop in Manorville back in September.
