A Long Island mother took part in a rally Thursday to support parents who choose not to vaccinate their children.
The protest was held at the Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack Thursday. The rally comes in the wake a of state of emergency that was declared in Rockland County due to a measles outbreak. As a result, unvaccinated minors are banned from public places in Rockland.
Demonstrators say despite the outbreak, officials have no right to ban children who have not been vaccinated. They say parents should have the right to choose for their children.
Since last October, 156 people have tested positive for the measles in Rockland. The state of emergency in Rockland is in effect for 30 days or until everyone is vaccinated.
