CENTRAL ISLIP -

An alleged gang member from Bellport accepted a plea deal Wednesday afternoon for a high-speed chase that resulted in the deaths of five people.

Jamel Turner, 24, accepted a plea deal that gives him 27 years in prison and five years' probation in the killing of five people while fleeing police in a stolen Camaro on Valentine's Day in 2018.

Turner turned down the plea deal this morning. Without the deal, he faced 47 years to life if convicted.

Prosecutors say Turner was high on marijuana and driving more than 150 mph when he ran from police, crashing into a Mazda on Middle Country Road and then an oil truck. The crash killed all four people inside the Mazda and his passenger in the Camaro.

The four people in the Mazda were identified as Jacquelyn McCoy, her daughter, her son and her son's girlfriend.

Pretrial hearings were scheduled for the afternoon Turner took the plea deal.

Suffolk District Attorney Tim Sini calls the case extremely serious and the sentence unprecedented.

Turner also waived his right to appeal. His sentencing is scheduled for May 7.
