A Wantagh man was caught secretly recording a woman inside a private tanning room at Beach Bum Tanning in Levittown, police say.
They say Jake Gabler-Colotti, 22, was spotted by a female customer on March 12 recording her in a tanning booth. News 12 is told he admitted to secretly recording the woman.
Gabler-Colotti also admitted to doing the same thing at other Beach Bum locations in Seaford and Plainview as well, investigators say.
His defense attorney says Gabler-Colotti pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Investigators say the woman saw a hand holding a cellphone over the partition that separates the tanning booths. The wall doesn't go all the way up to the ceiling, and is about 7 feet high with some space at the top.
At one point, Nassau police told News 12 that the suspect was an employee at the tanning salon. That was later corrected when they said he was a customer.
A man identified as Rudy A, a co-owner of the tanning salon, told News 12 that they will be taking extra precautions to make sure it never happens again. He says that the safety measures will include possibly screening customers before they go inside and installing motion sensors on each divider.
A spokesperson for the company released a statement saying "We are disgusted by news that a customer of ours was taping other customers while using a private tanning booth. We knew nothing about these activities, and are cooperating fully with authorities," said Ronn Torossian.
Detectives ask anyone who believes they may have been a victim to contact Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
