Police respond to call of crash, find man shot on the Grand Concourse
A man was shot inside his car on the Grand Concourse early Thursday morning.
Detectives blocked off part of East 167th Street and Grand Concourse during the investigation.
They say the incident began around 3:30 a.m. inside the deli on the corner of the block where both the victim and the suspect were inside.
Police say when the victim left the deli to go to his car, the suspect followed him. When the victim got to his vehicle, the suspect opened the passenger side door and demanded jewelry. When the victim refused, he was shot in the chest.
Police say the victim was able to drive one block toward Walton Avenue before crashing into a parked car.
First responders descended on the crash scene and rushed him to the Lincoln Hospital in critical condition. Authorities say the victim's girlfriend was in the car at the time of the incident, but was not hurt.
