Police: Serial burglar found stuck in ceiling of Bay Shore dental office
Police say a serial Suffolk County burglar tried to bust into a Bay Shore dental office through an air-conditioning vent but got stuck in the ceiling.
On Tuesday morning, dental office manager Heather Hernandez opened up shop to find a man's hand dangling from the ventilation system. She says the man said he was looking for cat named "Sparkles."
Hernandez stepped outside and called her boss, who called the landlord, who then called police.
Suffolk police rescued 32-year-old Sean Maranzino, and then arrested him. Investigators say he's responsible for five burglaries in the past week. Police say he broke into buildings by climbing through the ceilings and ventilation systems.
Around 3:45 a.m. last Thursday, Amir Hassan was trying to catch up at work in East Patchogue. He says he heard noises from the roof but didn't think much of it, until there was a loud bang and someone came crashing through the ceiling tile. He says the man told him he was working on the HVAC. Hassan says he grabbed a shotgun and told the man to leave.
Maranzino, who on Facebook says he works for an air-conditioning company in West Babylon, is charged with five counts of third-degree burglary.
At Maranzino's arraignment Wednesday afternoon, bail was set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond. He's due back in court Friday.
