Police: Man who kidnapped ex-girlfriend at Bridgeport school arrested
Bridgeport police released the identity of a man arrested for allegedly kidnapping his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint Saturday.
Surveillance video obtained by News 12 Connecticut shows Linwood Whitley walking into Madison School Friday morning. Police say that soon after, he forced his ex-girlfriend into his Chevy Monte Carlo at gunpoint.
The woman had been dropping her child off at school, police say.
Police say they got a huge break when a witness was able to rip Whitley’s license plate off his vehicle and give it directly to them.
Authorities say Whitley and his victim were on I-95 heading toward New York City when state police spotted the vehicle and pulled over the vehicle near Exit 6 in Stamford.
Police Chief AJ Perez says state police arrested Whitley and charged him with multiple felony counts, including kidnapping and illegal possession of a handgun.
News 12 is told that during the car ride, Whitley struck the victim several times in the face and threatened to kill her.
"I'm very relieved that this ended the way it ended,” he says. “It could have gone very, very bad.”
