Man accused of gouging grandmother's eyes reportedly kills himself

The Sayville man accused of gouging his grandmother's eyes has reportedly killed himself.
According to Newsday, Micheal Grief was found hanging in his cell at the Yaphank jail early Friday morning. He was declared dead that night.
Grief was not on suicide watch at the time.
The jail says it will conduct an investigation.
As News 12 has reported, police said Grief had an argument with his grandmother over use of her debit card. Suffolk District Attorney Tim Sini said Grief used his thumbs to gouge her eyes with enough force "that the globes of her eyes ruptured."
Grief pleaded not guilty following his arrest.
