Holbrook mom desperately searches for kidney donor
A Holbrook mother is desperately pleading for help in her search for a suitable kidney donor.
Jessica Plonski had one of her kidneys removed as a toddler. The 32-year-old mother of a 4-year-old has developed cysts on her remaining kidney.
Plonski, who works at a Lemon Tree salon in Massapequa, has an O-positive blood type, meaning she can only receive organs from someone with O blood type.
If Plonski doesn't get a kidney by April 1, she will have to go on dialysis four days a week for five hours at a time.
March marks National Kidney Month. According to the National Institute of Health, one in every seven adults in the U.S. suffers from kidney disease.
Currently in the U.S., the average wait for a kidney donation is more than three years.
