There was a strong and swift reaction to the mixed verdict in the federal corruption retrial of former Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and his wife, Linda.

County Executive Laura Curran, who succeeded Mangano after running on a platform of anti-corruption, says a lot of work will need to be done to undo the betrayal of the public's trust.
“It's a sad reminder that we have had a culture of corruption here in Nassau County and it's been allowed to permeate throughout our government,” says Curran.
Ed Mangano was accused of helping his close friend and former restauranteur Harendra Singh obtain guaranteed loans and county contracts in exchange for lavish gifts, including no-show jobs for his wife, a $7,300 wristwatch for one of their sons, as well as free meals and vacations.
