Bridgeport police seek public’s assistance to close 2014 restaurant murder case
Bridgeport police are asking for the public’s assistance to help bring a second person to justice for a 2014 murder that occurred at a local restaurant.
Police say Derrick Hill was shot to death in a hail of gunfire in front of Rootsman Kitchen on Park Avenue in July 2014.
Gregory Hughes, 33, was sentenced in connection with the murder in 2017, but officials say there is a second suspect who has never been arrested and they hope somebody will come forward and help bring that man to justice.
Hill’s family says they are making the appeal in the same week that Hill, who had four young children, would have turned 37 and that they are hopeful, but that waiting for justice has been a painful ordeal.
Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez said, “It was just horrible. We developed some leads rather quickly on that case, we followed through and we were able to make one arrest, but there's somebody else out there that we need to bring to justice."
Perez described the brutal nature of the murder: “He was shot multiple, multiple times. One of the most horrific scenes that I witnessed as a police officer."
Police are asking anybody who can help with their investigation to call their tip line at 203-576-TIPS.
