Friends, family mourn the loss of slain Bridgeport man

Friends and family are mourning the loss of a Bridgeport man who was fatally gunned down during a drive-by shooting.
Jerrell Gatewood, 34, was shot Tuesday morning outside Visions Sports Bar & Lounge at 456 Connecticut Ave. near Fifth Street.
Gatewood was transported to Bridgeport Hospital in critical condition, but was later pronounced dead.
Police say they believe he was targeted, but wouldn’t elaborate on a motive. They say Gatewood was also injured in a shooting five years ago.
Harry Bell, a close friend to Gatewood, says the two grew up in Trumbull Gardens. Bell says Gatewood was a self-employed handyman and the youngest of three boys who were devoted to their mother.
“Jerrell was a great guy. I grew up with him my whole life. We played in the sandbox together...His mother was a wonderful, God-fearing lady and did whatever she had to do to make things right for her children," Bell told News 12.
The fatal shooting was the city's sixth homicide this year. Authorities are urging anyone with information to call police at 203-576-7671.
