Falling debris closes parts of Route 3 in Clifton
Falling concrete prompted the closure of a portion of Route 3 in Passaic County.
A spokesperson for the New Jersey Department of Transportation says that concrete fell off the Route 46 bridge that crosses over Route 3. Structural engineers were on the scene evaluating the situation, according to the department.
The closure caused heavy delays in the area, with traffic being diverted at Grove Street. It also caused some delays with New Jersey Transit buses.
There weren’t any reports of any of the concrete striking any vehicles on the highway.
The highway remained closed as of 10 p.m. Tuesday. Officials say that they hope to have the road reopened by the Wednesday morning commute.
