Officials: Nassau, Suffolk county ready for potential snowfall

Road crews across Long Island are prepping for another winter storm.
Hempstead Town Supervisor Laura Gillen says 35,000 pounds of salt and sand are ready to prepare the roads before snowfall begins. She says they won't start until they have a better idea of when the snow will start sticking because rain may come first and wash away the salt and sand.
"If you can, do what you need to do this morning," Gillen said. "Try to leave your afternoon clear to stay off the roads because it enables our crews to better respond to the situation."
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone says he has similar plans and that people should be ready for a number of different options.
"This could be a significant storm," Bellone said. "It could be pretty much a miss. It just depends on what the storms tracks over the next 12 hours."
Residents are also doing their part to get ready for the wintry weather.
One store in Copiague says consumers have already stopped by to buy shovels, ice melt, snow brushes and salt.
Gillen says school closings will be determined by the superintendent's offices.
