Neighbors cite environmental, traffic concerns for apartment opposition
Some neighbors aren't exactly laying out the welcome mat for a proposed 50-unit, luxury waterfront apartment building in Patchogue.
The proposed development is the former site of an oil company at the end of Mulford Street near West Avenue. Developer Anthony Bartone says the site is zoned commercially, but he wants to build the Cornerstone Waterfront at Patchogue there.
But neighbors like Dan Penberg have environmental concerns and worry that increased traffic and overflow parking on side streets will reduce their quality of life.
There are some marine businesses along Mulford Street near where the apartment complex is planned. There are also concerns that the excess traffic and street parking might make it difficult for them to get trucks in and out of their businesses.
Bartone says he's been listening to concerns from village planners and residents and is making major adjustments to the building to be a good neighbor.
A planning board meeting on the proposed development will be held March 26 in Patchogue.
